Coron may be famous for island hopping, diving and seafood, but vegetarian travelers have increasingly good choices when it comes to eating around town.
Today, you can find everything from Filipino vegetable dishes to Mediterranean food, pizzas, salads, plant-based comfort food and cafés serving lighter meals.
Here are some places worth knowing.
Gulay ni Sinang
Located along the National Highway in Barangay 5, Gulay ni Sinang is a dedicated vegetarian restaurant and one of the more affordable options in Coron.
It is particularly interesting for travelers who want something closer to local Filipino cooking rather than eating Western food throughout their holiday.
Good for: Filipino-style vegetarian food, casual meals and budget-conscious travelers.
Verde Rekado
Verde Rekado on Nueva Street in Coron Town Proper is listed as a vegan restaurant, which naturally makes it a useful option for vegetarians as well.
It is conveniently located for travelers staying around the center of Coron and is open for much of the day.
Good for: Plant-based meals and travelers wanting a dedicated meat-free restaurant.
Full Lotus Mindful Kitchen
Full Lotus Mindful Kitchen on the National Highway is another dedicated vegan restaurant in Coron.
Because the kitchen focuses on plant-based food, vegetarians have considerably more choice here than they may find at conventional restaurants where the vegetarian selection consists of only one or two dishes.
Good for: Fully plant-based meals and health-conscious travelers.
Mediterrania Coron
Located on San Agustin Street, Mediterrania Coron offers another option for travelers looking for plant-based food in the center of town.
Its Mediterranean influence can also be a welcome change after several days of Filipino food.
Good for: Mediterranean flavors and casual plant-based dining.
Jungle Bar – Da Tree
Jungle Bar – Da Tree, in Sitio Pali, offers another vegan-friendly alternative outside the busiest part of Coron Town.
It can be particularly interesting if you want to combine dinner or drinks with a different atmosphere from the restaurants concentrated around the town center.
Good for: Plant-based food in a more relaxed setting.
Le Voyage
Le Voyage on Burgos Street is listed as a vegetarian restaurant and offers another centrally located choice.
Its early opening hours can also make it useful for breakfast before an island-hopping or diving day.
Good for: Breakfast and vegetarian travelers staying in Coron Town.
Vegetarian Food on Island Tours
If you are joining an island-hopping tour, expedition or diving trip, don't assume vegetarian food will automatically be included.
Tell your tour operator that you are vegetarian when you book, preferably the day before departure.
Also explain exactly what you don't eat. In the Philippines, a dish described as “vegetable” can sometimes still contain meat broth, fish sauce or other animal ingredients.
A Few Useful Tips
Coron's vegetarian scene is growing, but restaurants and menus change regularly. Check the current menu before making a special trip to a particular restaurant.
If you have strict dietary requirements, clearly explain whether you eat eggs, dairy products, fish sauce or food cooked with meat products.
And remember that some of the best vegetarian meals in Coron may not necessarily come from vegetarian restaurants. Filipino restaurants often have vegetable dishes that can sometimes be adapted on request.
